Jun. 95: pond is full time for fish

We have had so much rain in the last month the pond is full, so it is time to add fish.  Betty is releasing one hundred fingerling Channel Catfish in the pond.

Jun. 95: a visitor

Betty and Randy take a break from working after a neighbor unexpectedly stops by for a visit.  Jo Hechendorf came by to see how the work was going on the old house.  We loved working on the old house but welcomed the visits from friends.

Jun. 95: living room

The living room in the old house is almost finished.

Jun. 95: full pond

The pond is full and the catfish are getting bigger.  Here Betty is feeding the catfish so she can watch them come to the top of the pond to eat the floating catfish food.

July 95: tree here tree there

Jimmy Finke is moving one of the plum trees.  It had to be moved because it was in the way of the trailer being moved off the property.  (Because we sold the trailer)

July 95: here a tree there a tree

Jimmy replanted the Plum tree by the pond.  Jimmy transplanted pecan and water oak trees on our property.

Oct. 95: lambs lick

Betty has taped off and is painting the chamfered part of each of the porch post.  Chamfering in the old days used to be called "lambs lick".  Chamfering is an old design for Texas farm houses

Nov. 95: crazy helper

Betty is priming and painting the spindles for the front porch hand rails.  Mike Hanlen and Randy are just goofing off.

Nov. 95: hand rail

Finally Randy is putting up the porch hand rail.  Also take notice the metal skirting on the front of the house.  The metal is made to look like stone, and the steps to get on the porch are still on the side of the porch.

Nov. 95: painted foliage

Here Betty is stenciling foliage all across the header board on the front porch.

Dec. 95: porch steps go in

Randy saw these steps on an old farm house and built them from memory to match.  Shiloh Travis is helping to try and get them finished before Christmas.

Dec. 95: finishing the steps

Two days before Christmas Randy is putting the spindles on the porch steps.

Dec. 95: first Christmas in the old house

We had our first Easter for the family here this year and the pressure was on to have more improvements for Christmas.  As you can see the front porch steps were finished, but just two days before Christmas.

Dec. 95: first Christmas

Family Christmas held at the house.  It was a cold day so everyone stayed inside.  The Christmas tree came from our property, every year Betty and I walk the property to find the right Cedar tree to be our Christmas tree.

Jan. 96: the bathroom

Randy is putting the tile on the bathroom countrer top.

Jan. 96: bathroom is coming together

As seen here the sinks are fitted for placement, the toilet is in and the tub framing needs to be put in.

Jan. 96: finishing touches

Betty is making adjustments to the tile before it is set in place.

Mar. 96: finished

The bathroom is finally finished.

June 96: in the kitchen

Betty is standing in the make shift kitchen we have had since we moved into the house.  But it is time to start the remodeling of the kitchen.

Aug. 96: the work begins

Working on the weekends it takes time to put the kitchen together.  Everything has to hauled up from Houston, because the lumber stores close at noon on Saturday.

Nov. 96: counter and sink

Randy is putting the counter top in and then the sink.  The upper and lower cabinets have been put in and painted.

Apr. 97: finished kitchen

The kitchen is finally finished.

June 97: water for the yard

With the rental of a trenching machine Randy starts the process of putting faucets in the yard.

Apr. 98: skirting

The stone skirting is put all around the house.

Apr 98: take a step

The steps go in to get into the back porch.

Jan. 99: attic is next project

Randy is putting in the foam insulation between the roof rafters, take note the foil on foam this keeps the radiant heat out of the attic.
Feb. 99: insulation

Randy and Betty are putting in the insulation; the lat-boards help to hold the insulation in place.  Also the lat-boards will be where the bead board will go on to be the ceiling of the room.

Feb. 99: getting there as a room

Randy is standing at one end of the attic, the insulation is in and the end wall has been put inplace.
