Oct. 92: original site of house

The house was built in the 1880s, on forty acres off FM 954 near Warrenton, TX.

Feb. 93: close up of house

For the past forty years the house was used to store square bales of hay.  House is to be moved to our property in Round Top, Texas ( 7 and 1/2 miles away )

Feb. 93: showing the old house

This is the kitchen area, the original wood floor is covered in very old linoleum and three quarter inch plywood. Sandy's family came to look at the old house before it was moved. Pat Patterson, David Benner wtih baby Austin and Betty.

Feb. 93: bathroom

There was nothing that functioned in the bathroom.  The tub had to be filled with a garden hose and the toilet flushed into the field beside the house.  This room was once the back porch of the house. Tub and toilet were removed from the house before it was moved to our property.

Feb. 93: attic is only roughed in

There are steep stairs off the kitchen area that go up to the attic.  The old stove pipe is still in place, and the corrugated tin can be seen.  The attic was full of dirt dobber nest.

Sep. 93: place where house will sit

It has now been nine months and the house has not been moved to this location because of too much rain. This view shows where the pond will be placed on the property.

Oct. 93: Betty standing on house footing

The house still has not been moved onto the property because of too much rain (ground is too soft for the weight of the house). The concret footing is in place and will support the load bearing walls of the house, keeping the entire house leval.

Oct. 93: house is ready

Randy is standing with the house, the house is ready to be moved.  The porch has been taken off the house because it will be moved seperately.

Oct. 11, 93:  house on Hwy 237

The house is being moved into the town of Round Top to make the turn onto Round Top Road.  The porch has been taken off the house and is being moved separately.

Oct. 11, 93: moving along Round Top Road

Round Top Road is a gravel road at this time and it is just wide enough for the house.

Oct. 11, 93: porch is placed in yard

The house is put beside the footing and the front porch has been put down in the front yard. The house will be moved the next day onto the footing.

Nov. 93: house mover and neighbor

Betty is talking with the house mover Vernum Yokum (in truck) and our neighbor Bob Heckendorf.

Nov. 93: put in place

Thie house has been put in place on the footing, blocked and leveled.  Betty is taking a look at all the work that needs to be done on the old house.

Nov. 93: house and porch

Randy is taking this picture from where the pond will be dug.  We decided not to re-attach the porch to the house.  We waned a bigger front porch. The big tree in this picture had to be cut down, it was dying.

Nov. 93: test holes for pond

Ted Reed stands at one of the three test holes we had dug.  The holes are ten feet long and eight feet deep, they are to see what type of soil the pond will have for holding water or not.

Nov. 93: Betty in attic

Betty is thinking of all the work that has to be done on the old house. The attic is full of dirt-dobber nest, and there is no insulation, but it is solid wood.

Feb. 94: tree planting machine

Betty is talking with Jimmy Finkie.  Jimmy has a nursery in Round Top and will move trees from different sites on our property to the front yard of the old house.

June 94: sanding and more sanding

Betty with her five inch electric Mykita sander, she is starting on the entry hall of the old house.

June 94: visitors come to see

Betty shows Bob & Jo Heckendorf (our next door neighbors) the work we have done on the old house.

July 94: rotten wood replacement

Randy is replacing old rotten boards from all over the old house.  He replaces them with Waffer Board and Inner Seal that looks like wood.  It will all be painted so you can not tell which is which.

July 94: more sanding

Betty is seen here sanding another wall, she sands every wall in the entire house.  This sanding takes weeks to do, and she does it all by herself. Randy does the outside.

July 94: good-ye Old Porch up in flames

The old porch was only thirty feet wide by seven feet deep.  We wanted a larger front porch, so this was the fastest way to get rid of the old porch.

Nov. 94: water blasting the old paint

We tried to scrape and sand the old outside paint off but the only thing that worked was a 32 hundred psi water blasting machine.

Nov. 94: septic is in the ground

You can see here the front yard has turned to solid dirt, this is because the septic tank and field lines have been put in.  Betty is working on the windows, and Bob Heckendorf is helping.

Nov. 94: digging the Pond begins

You can see the bull-dozer (left edge of picture) and the test hole (far right of picture). There are twelve trees that have to be taken out.  Some of the oak trees are eight inches in diameter.

Nov. 94: fascinated by it all

It only takes forty-five minutes for the two D-5 Catapiller bull-dozers to do away with all the trees where the pond will go. Betty can't belive how fast it is happening.

Nov. 94: second day and it is taking shape

Second day of digging the pond, Buddy Mach and his son are starting to give shape to the pond.  The pond is only about four feet deep at this point.

Nov. 94: five days later

The pond is finished, Randy and Betty are standing at the bottom of the deep end of the pond, and it is twelve feet deep at this end.  The other end of the pond is ten feet deep, and when completely filled it covers about one square acre.

Nov. 94: Betty priming a window

Betty had to take all fourteen windows out of the house.  The window openings had to be sanded then painted.  The windows had to be completely taken apart then put back togeather.
