It was a tight squeeze, and the porch had to be removed.
Here is the old house being moved down Round Top Rd. The house was moved from Warrenton to our property ( about 7 miles away ). It is a tight squeeze so they had to take the front porch off and move it separately.
The old house was set of poured concrete footing.
The old house is put into place and now the work begins. The front yard is a mess because we had just had our septic tank put in the ground.
Buddy Mach and his son are working the two D-5 Bulldozers.
The house had to be moved right across the pond, so as soon as the house was set the digging of the pond began. Two bulldozers made short work of several trees. You can see the shape of the pond start to take place. When finished is would be 12 feet deep and cover one surface acre.
Betty's fasination with the pond work drew her to it about every hour.
Betty was really fasinated by the work the bulldozers were doing. She could not believe they could clear trees and dirt that fast. It took only two days before the pond was finished.
Take notice of the Water Oak Tree in the yard. We had it transplanted from a different site on the property. That same tree can be seen in the picture on the home page of this site only it is much bigger.
Many boards on the house had to be replaced.
The outside of the old house need some boards replaced.
Betty and her Makita sander became good friends.
Betty spent hour after hour day in and day out sanding all the old paint off every wall in the house.
The gas powered pressure washer would was the wood away if not careful.
The entire house had to be water blasted to take all the years and years of paint off the house. Betty took all the windows out and reglazed, sanded, primed & painted them. Then Randy put them all in place. Each task took much more time & energy than was originally anticipated.
When they started on Saturday morning there was no porch at all.
Then came 'Amish-Weekend'. This is where we all take turns helping each other build the others' home or work on their property. It is done on a Saturday and Sunday. All the building material is already on the site and the workers bring their tools and are assigned a job. With all the people we were able to get very large projects well underway. The girls painted the inside of the house and the guys helped build the front porch.
After two days of hard work, the Amish gang pose for a picture.
Here is most of the Amish gang.

Randy had never built a kitchen before but it had to be done.
Now that the house was painted and had a bathroom it was time to put the kitchen in. The cabinets are in and the sink is ready to be set so now it is time to put the tile on the counter tops.
